Privacy notice
The Africa PR Network is run by the Africa Global PR Week Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya, which decides how the information described here is used. This notice covers this website, the application and payment process, and the member app.
What we collect
- When you apply: your name, email address, country, the track you apply under, your role and organisation (or your university and year of study), a short account of your work, your LinkedIn profile and, if you choose to give them, your phone number and social media handles.
- When you pay: the membership you bought, the amount, the date and a payment reference. Card payments are handled by Paystack. Your card number never reaches us and we do not store it.
- When you are a member: your profile, your connections, the messages you send and receive, your activity in the Network, and the sessions you register for.
- When you sign in: a one-time code is sent to your email address, and a session is kept in your browser so that you stay signed in.
This website sets no advertising or tracking cookies.
Why we use it
- To review your application and decide on it.
- To take payment, give you access and keep a record of your membership.
- To run the directory, messaging and the other parts of the Network.
- To write to you about your application, your membership and its renewal, and about Network sessions and events.
- To keep the Network safe, and to meet our legal and accounting duties.
Who sees it
Your profile is visible to other members in the member directory. You can make it private in the member app, and other members never see your email address or phone number unless you share them. Your application, including the parts that are not in your profile, is seen only by the membership team.
We use a small number of service providers to run the Network: for hosting and data storage, for sending email, and Paystack for payments. They handle your information only on our instructions. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with sponsors or partners without your consent.
How long we keep it
We keep an application for as long as it is open, and for up to two years if it is declined. We keep a member’s profile and history for as long as they are a member, and after a membership ends so that they can return, unless they ask us to remove it. We keep payment records for as long as the law requires.
Your choices
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it removed, and you can object to how we use it. Write to network@africaprweek.com and we will reply within 30 days. You may also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya, or to the data protection authority where you live.
